Yancy is a church planter and works some with translation in coordination with his wife Sherry. Sherry is a trained linguist whose primary work is Bible translation. Sherry has her Ph.D in linguistics from The University of Texas at Arlington. Yancy has recently been chosen Director for the West Africa Branch of Pioneer Bible Translators. The Fariss’ have 4 children. Their oldest 2 children, Sarah and William, are currently in boarding school in a neighboring country. Their younger children, Rex and Debra are homeschooled with them in the village. They are assisted in homeschooling by Julie Smout, a special tutor from Australia.
