The Miller family includes both Deaf and hearing members. Glen and two children are Deaf, while Carla and their other three children are hearing.
Glen and Carla struggled to find accessible, Christ-centered resources that everyone in the family, whether Deaf or hearing, could learn from together. The children all learned American Sign Language first, so that is the language of their hearts. Most faith-based materials are hearing-centric, relying on songs and spoken English. These materials left Deaf family members feeling excluded and disconnected.
Your support for the “Birth of the Savior” in the Action Bible in American Sign Language marked a turning point for the family! At last, they could all experience a Christian resource together and discover — visually, spiritually, and linguistically — this event that is such an important part of their faith.
Watching the “Birth of the Savior” episode in sign language became a shared moment of connection, affirming their Christmas traditions and deepening the children’s understanding of the Gospel. You helped create a special moment for this family to experience the Christmas story together. The children asked questions and even retold and affirmed the story with their parents.
Eight-year-old Audrey said, “If you can watch the stories of the Bible, then you will know those stories and be able to tell others.”
Thank you for providing this special experience for the Miller family! You provided this Bible story — and many others — told in motion, voice, image, and sign. These stories have brought everyone to the same place, the same moment, the same Savior. Praise God!
