The children of cross-cultural workers, often referred to as TCKs (Third Culture Kids), face new challenges as they leave their overseas homes to begin college or employment. Here are a few ways you can pray for them as they make these transitions.

• TCKs who have lived overseas most of their lives may struggle to feel that they belong in their parents’ home country. Pray that they will not be overwhelmed when these feelings arise. Pray God’s perfect peace for them.
• Several Pioneer Bible TCKs are returning to college this month. Others are about to begin their first year. Pray that they will do well in their classes. Pray for healthy relationships with their roommates and others who live nearby.
• Other TCKs have chosen vocational training or apprenticeships. Pray that they will master the concepts and skills they need to achieve the goals of their training. Pray for healthy relationships with instructors and others with whom they are interacting.
• Homesickness for family and friends on the field may be intense, especially on birthdays and special holidays. Pray that God will use TCKs’extended families as well as new friends to help fill this void. Pray for God’s provision so they can return to their overseas homes to visit family and celebrate holidays.
• Growing up in places with limited job opportunities for non-citizens leaves many TCKs without marketable skills and experience. Pray for jobs for those seeking them and for rapid development of the skills and relationships that will make them valued employees.
• Becoming part of a nurturing Christian community is vital. Pray that God will guide TCKs to churches and other gatherings where their needs will be recognized and ministered to.
• The challenges of transition can both strengthen and shake TCKs in their relationship with Christ. Pray that their faith will be solid, active, and growing.
• TCKs are shaped by what they have seen and learned in multiple cultures. Pray that God will use each TCK’s giftings and experiences to grow and strengthen His Kingdom.
